NYPD Officer Randolph Holder dies after East Harlem shooting

In National by rapsheet

“He ran toward danger. It was the last time he will respond to that call.”
– William J. Bratton, NYPD Commissioner

Officer Holder was a third-generation police officer whose father and grandfather had both served on the police force in Guyana. His father, also named Randolph, hurried to the hospital last night, where he privately addressed dozens of officers who had gathered in solidarity and grief. Several city officials, including Mayor Bill de Blasio, were also there, keeping vigil.

“We honor the memory of Officer Holder,” Mr. de Blasio said, “a man who, in the words of Abraham Lincoln, gave the last full measure of his devotion on behalf of the city he loved.”

Our sincere thoughts and prayers go out to the family of NYPD Officer Randolph Holder killed in the line of duty yesterday. To his family, loved ones, and brothers and sisters who wear the badge we grieve with you. Although we are miles away, we stand by your side through this tragic time.
